For the blog post today, I also read about more writing system in the book. I would like to compare the first book orality and the writing in this book, we are going to explore which one is the most important. In my opinion, the oral in the very old day is already exist. The first thing for people to communicate to each other is language which is orality. Different area have their own languages. Like some of the area now, they don't have the writing system, they just live with orally styles ten during their whole life, people using the storytelling to be a record instead of the writing system. We can see that how orality important to people's live.
In the opposite way, I think writing is not so important. And as our society' a development. All the people will just talk rather than write. Writing is kind of fall behind

Chi Wai Lei - Blog Post# 5
for today's blog post, I would like to talk about the comparison of the old writing material and the writing material today. In the chapter 5 of the book, it talks about the old writing material people to writing words on that which is clay. Clay is a hard and dry material. it sounds like it's not so easy to write on. But according to the wisdom of the old people. They can make the clay in different shapes that they write things on. Basically, there are a few processes to work on the clay before people write things on it. The clay at first is pretty wet, people have to shape it as a flat things then they have to let it dry out a little bit and finally they can write things on it. It is pretty complicated process and takes times. Like every time when people want to write somethings down, they have to take an hours to work on the clay then they can write things down. Also ,the clay has just two sides on it, which means people really have limitation on words writing. Even it takes times and complicated, this skill really helps people to record their culture, languages or other stuff down and pasted to their next generations.
As our society develop so fast, now we never have to worry about the paper supply in our daily life. The papers are cheap and people can buy them anywhere. Also, when you just walk on the street, you will see a lot of different style papers with advertisements, they have big, small, also in any shapes. Also, as the development of the technologies, people don't even have to worry about the real paper anymore since all the record are now saving in computer rater than areal paper.

Blog Post # 4 - Chi Wai
After I read for the blog post of
the hot and cool media, I would like to talk about how the cool media
influences the readings through readers. The cool media from Walter's post defined
as a low-definition medium that “gives a little information and makes the user
work to fill in what is missing” (51), which means the cool media is a media
that giving readers some information and let them to think up other ideas to fill
in the missing part through the books or articles.
Throughout the
book “Chinua Achebe” that we read today, I think the connection between the Chinua
Achebe and the cool media is “missing part”. In my opinion, in the Chinua
Achebe book, there are so many short stories for readers to read. It seems
pretty fun. But what I saw here is some of the stories that have something
missed, like they don’t have very specific words or phases that talking about
the main idea. For example, in one story, the main idea is telling people how
the oral culture in use in the spirit and god culture. But we cannot find any
of the specific word like oral or oral culture in that story, readers have to read through the whole story and according to the details of the story to find out the hidden meaning "oral culture" in it. What I think this
is the missing part that for readers to think about that, which matched the
theory of the cool media. Therefore, the cool media gives a little information
(spirit and god culture story) and makes the user work to fill in what is
missing (oral culture).

Blog Post#3
For the reading today, I read the
essays and response part, which is called Chi in Lgbo Cosmology. After I read
this chapter, I want to talk about how people think the spirit and the god in
their mind. As my other class learned before, most of the people live in Lgbo
believe in spirit. They think that spirit has a mysterious power. Sometimes the
power can bring the people happy, lucky and wealth. In some of the areas,
children will get a ceremony to connect to the spirit, which can make the
children have wealth forever.
Also, for the god, different area
believes in different god. They have their own god and the god is very
mysterious. In some area in Lgbo, women are not allowed to see the god or pay
to the god because people think that women are not sacred enough to pay for the
god.
After talked about the two main
parts in this chapter, the main idea I want to talk about is those spirit and
god theory are all pass from generation to generation. At the very beginning,
the old people saw a god and then pay for them as a traditions, finally, they
pass that tradition to their children and their children pass that to other.
That’s how the spirit and god still exist in our world. In my opinion, I would
also think that those spirit and god are actually connected to the literature
in some points since they are passed through the writing system. And literature
means any written words for recording the history.

Blog Post#2 - Chi Wai
For the blog post 2, I would like to focus on
the oral culture in story. In our society, we have another term that call
“Narrative”. “Narrative” means a connected events, which can present to a reader or listener in a sequence of
written or spoken words.
To continue, I would like to talk about how the
oral culture applied in people live from the very beginning to now in our
modern society. During the article ”History of story”, which said that in the
old day, people in the communities focus on storytelling so much, some of the
stories become a culture heritage. The oral storytelling basically is used to teach
children on proper behavior, cultural history, communal identity and values,
etc. Since people in the old day don’t have the high education, they might now
know how to write so well. The only way that to keep the story is through oral
storytelling. People pass that from one generation to one generation.
In our modern society now, oral culture in
storytelling is also very popular. “Radio drama” and “Storytelling Radio” are
the very popular media for audience to listen story. Because of the invention
of the high technology today, the invented of the storytelling radio that made
people can very easy to listen the story or narrative at home or everywhere.
Also, our society is growing so fast everyday, people in our modern society is
kind of being lazy, they don’t want to type so much, they prefer speak to
write. Some people are lazy on reading, they would just want to listen rather
than read. There are some of the reasons that made the Radio drama or
storytelling radio becoming the mainstream event.
Finally, after compared the oral culture in
story in the old day and the modern society. No matter in the old day, or in
the modern society, according to the points that I pointed out above, oral
culture is important to people. Sometimes, I would think that oral culture is
better than writing culture because oral is speaking straightforward to the
meaning.

Blog#1- Chi Wai
According to the book, I found “The
shift form orality to literacy and on to electronic processing engages social,
economies, political, religious and other structure”, I think what the author
want to say here is because of the social, economies, political, religious and
other structure appeared, which makes people from just orality then shift to
literacy. In the very old day, there was just oral during people’s daily live.
Since people don’t have the skill of literacy. No one know the past things and
events. As the society growing so fast, many people start to search the old
culture and want to know more about the past, how the evolvement of human, how
the society taking shape, etc. literacy then becomes an important element in
people live at that time. In my personal view, I love literacy. I would say
that literacy is a very important element in our daily live. No matter in
school, work, or other places. Literacy is everywhere. For example, in school,
the textbooks, assignments, etc. most of them involve with the literacy.
Therefore, I agree that literacy basically engages with social, economies, political,
religious and other structure.
Finally, I wan to talk about my
experience of literacy. Using the oral to communicate to other instead of
literacy is a good idea in people daily live. In our society now, many people are
lazy to type the word and write the word, all they do is just using the
electronic devices to do voice record instead of writing record. Like in China,
we have a chatting APP call wechat that just recording someone’ voice to others
instead of typing. I feel like many people now are not good at writing since
they all using voice record. People might have to change this kind of life
style to maintain the literacy culture. Otherwise, literacy will disappear in someday.
