Blog Post # 4 - Chi Wai

After I read for the blog post of the hot and cool media, I would like to talk about how the cool media influences the readings through readers. The cool media from Walter's post defined as a low-definition medium that “gives a little information and makes the user work to fill in what is missing” (51), which means the cool media is a media that giving readers some information and let them to think up other ideas to fill in the missing part through the books or articles.

Throughout the book “Chinua Achebe” that we read today, I think the connection between the Chinua Achebe and the cool media is “missing part”. In my opinion, in the Chinua Achebe book, there are so many short stories for readers to read. It seems pretty fun. But what I saw here is some of the stories that have something missed, like they don’t have very specific words or phases that talking about the main idea. For example, in one story, the main idea is telling people how the oral culture in use in the spirit and god culture. But we cannot find any of the specific word like oral or oral culture in that story, readers have to read through the whole story and according to the details of the story to find out the hidden meaning "oral culture" in it. What I think this is the missing part that for readers to think about that, which matched the theory of the cool media. Therefore, the cool media gives a little information (spirit and god culture story) and makes the user work to fill in what is missing (oral culture).
